Language and Interpreter Services
Professional interpreters should be used to communicate with people with limited English comprehension and speaking capacity in all situations concerning their medical condition and/or treatment.

How to work effectively with an interpreter:
- Establish information required prior to appointment / meeting
- Confirm whether patient has a preference of gender for the interpreter
- Confirm language / dialect required
- Book interpreter a minimum of 24hrs prior when possible
- Make sure you, and any other necessary staff, are available when the interpreter arrives (time is money!)
- Speak clearly and do not shout
- Allow time for the message to be interpreted between segments of information
