NOAC’s – Talk by Carolyn Groves (Haematology) and updated Australian Guidelines
Here is Carolyn Groves very helpful talk on the management of patients taking NOAC’s. Please note that the more recent Australian Guidelines: New oral anticoagulants: a practical guide on prescription, laboratory testing and peri-procedural/bleeding management, published in 2014, do slightly differ from the Western Australian Therapeutic Advisory Group (WATAG) New Oral Anticoagulant (NOAC) Guidelines, published in November 2013. Both are included below for reference. Management of any unstable, or potentially unstable, bleeding patients on NOAC’s should be discussed with a the on call haematologist. Glossary:
- FEIBA = factor VIII inhibitor bypassing fraction = an activated PCC
- PCC – Prothrombin complex concentrate (Prothombinex = a 3 Factor prothrombin complex available in Australia)
