CME 14/8/14 – ACLS and Beyond
Here is Deanne’s talk on going beyond the ACLS algorithm. This posed as a very useful stimulus for discussion regarding several resuscitation interventions. Many of these are also discussed by Scott Weingart in his talk at SMACC 2014 “Cutting Edge Intra-Arrest Care” which is included below. The main point of this talk is to stimulate you to consider the case that you have in front of you and use your skills as a “resuscionist” to determine the appropriate interventions available to you to give your patient the best possible outcome. Sometimes, that may mean making the decision to cease resuscitation! (see here: When to stop resuscitation?).
Weingart tackles the dogma and evidence around resuscitation algorithms brings us the concept of truely advanced life support.
