New NAC Protocol Label & Paracetamol Poisoning Mx link

To prevent the possibility of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) dosing errors, Dr Ioana Vlad has developed an adhesive NAC Protocol that can be placed in the patients notes. From now on all patients who require NAC as treatment for paracetamol poisoning need a label in the notes showing the correct calculation.

The labels can be found on the main flight deck in front of cubicles R5-R6.

All patients who require NAC need:

  • To be weighed and the weight written on the N-acetylcysteine dosing label (attached)
  • The appropriate dose of N-acetylcysteine for their weight circled on the label
  • Label placed in the medical notes
  • Then the N-acetylcysteine in dextrose will still have to be charted on the iv fluid order chart as per usual
